Greener Kingsclere is a local community voluntary group dedicated to maintaining the natural environment around Kingsclere, Hampshire. We are starting with the chalk stream that runs through the village, thanks to support from Southern Water and Action for River Kennet.
Our launch event
On 20th May 2026 we launched Greener Kingsclere in partnership with Kingsclere Church of England Primary School, Southern Water, Action for River Kennet (ARK) and Kingsclere Community Association. We estimate that 150 people from the village turned up to hear about Southern Water’s plans for restoration of the chalk stream and ARK’s planned activities for volunteers.
Five of the school’s young ‘eco-warriors’ started the event off with a wonderful presentation about why the village stream is important to them. Dr Kate Parks from the University of Southampton then explained what a chalk stream is and how ours works.
All the slides from the night are below.
